Lockheed Martin confirmed it had reached AN/SPY-7(V)1 radar milestones for programmes in Japan and Spain on 15 January during the Surface Navy Association (SNA) National Symposium 2025.
Lockheed Martin successfully delivered the first AN/SPY-7(V)1 radar antenna for the Aegis System Equipped Vessel (ASEV) to the Japan Ministry of Defense, the company said in a statement.
Following acceptance testing, the delivery was made through Mitsubishi Corporation under a Direct Commercial Sale (DCS) arrangement, the company said.
Before full system delivery to Japan, the AN/SPY-7 (V)1 antenna will now proceed to final integration with the ASEV combat system at the Production Test Center (PTC-2) in Moorestown to minimise risk during ship integration and ensure optimal system performance prior to delivery, Lockheed Martin said.
Additional antenna deliveries are scheduled for 2025, Chandra Marshall, Lockheed Martin vice-president of Multi-Domain Combat Solutions, said in the statement.
On 14 January also during the SNA symposium, Lockheed Martin confirmed in a statement that the company and Spanish shipbuilder Navantia demonstrated the first live track for the Spain F-110 Multi-Mission Frigate's AN/SPY-7(V)2 radar.
The tracking event was conducted at Lockheed Martin's Aegis Integration Center (ASIC) in Moorestown, New Jersey, the company said.
“The SPY-7 radar system's tactical hardware and software accurately tracked airborne objects,” Marshall said in the statement, adding that the milestone shows the system is now ready for comprehensive performance testing.
The programme is on track to meet its scheduled commissioning date for the first frigate in 2028, said Carlos Lopez, F-110 Navantia programme director.
