Goa Shipyard is to deliver the first two of eight 51 m Adamya-class fast patrol vessels (FPVs) to the Indian Coast Guard in March.

Confirming the delivery schedule to Janes at the Naval Defence & Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX) 2025 held in Abu Dhabi in February, Bindhu Abraham, the additional general manager at Goa Shipyard, said that this followed the launches of the first- and second-of-class vessels, Adamya and Akshar, in October 2024.

The contract for the eight FPVs was signed between India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Goa Shipyard in March 2022. The Adamya class has an overall length of 51 m, a beam of 8 m, and a hull draught of 2.15 m. Powered by two diesel engines driving two controllable pitch propellers (CPP), the class has a top speed of 27 kt and a standard range of 1,500 n miles at a cruising speed of 13 kt. They can accommodate a crew of 35, including seven officers.

The ships can accommodate one 30 mm main gun and point defence weapons such as 12.7 mm machine guns.

These vessels are primarily designed for patrolling, anti-smuggling, and anti-terrorist operations. They can also support the navy during wartime as a coastal convoy escort and communication link. Once in service, the Adamya-class patrol vessels will take on maritime patrol operations within India's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and the protection of fishery resources as well as search-and-rescue operations.
