The ministry valued the government-to-government agreement at EUR447 million (USD493 million), including logistics, ammunition, and infrastructure. Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said the AMV XP would replace infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) that are at the end of their service life amid growing operational demands on the Slovak Armed Forces' readiness and would be intoperable with NATO systems, fulfilling allied commitments to create a heavy mechanised brigade.

Patria said in a press release that the Slovak government's decision was based on bids submitted at the end of 2021 and vehicle and weapon tests conducted in February 2022.
