Krauss-Maffei Wegman (KMW) and EODH signed an expanded framework agreement covering co-operative development and joint marketing of protection upgrades for main battle tanks (MBTs) at Eurosatory 2022 on 16 June. The agreement also contains provisions for guaranteeing the supply chain of strategic materials and joint marketing of the EODH Hoplite 4×4 armoured vehicle.

Under the agreement the two companies will work together to devise survivability solutions for KMW products marketed to international customers, particularly NATO members and allies in Europe and the Middle East. This will include joint development and marketing of survivability upgrade packages for MBTs based on EODH's Advanced Shielding Platform Integrated System Modular New Generation (ASPIS Modular NG) displayed for the first time at Eurosatory 2022.

ASPIS Modular NG is a modular system that is designed to be mounted on the turret of the KMW Leopard 2 family of MBTs as a means to quickly upgrade its protection. It can be configured to meet specific customer protection requirements including greater protection against long rod armour-piercing fin-stabilised discarding sabot (APFSDS) projectiles, shaped charge projectiles with a tandem warhead, and top-attack threats, such an anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) employing a lofted trajectory and loitering munitions.

During Eurosatory the package was displayed mounted on a Leopard 2A4 turret. It featured modules containing double layers of explosive reactive armour (ERA) in front of passive armour modules on the front and sides of the turret to protect the crew against shaped charge and APFSDS projectiles. If a customer is concerned about collateral damage from ERA, the ERA modules can be replaced by passive armour modules.
