Romania has awarded Raytheon, an RTX business, a USD946 million contract for more Patriot air-defence systems, the company announced in a press release on 3 January. The contract includes fire units consisting of radars, control stations, and missiles, but Raytheon declined to disclose the specific types to Janes.

A Raytheon spokesperson told Janes on 6 January that earlier contracts were signed on 24 May 2018 and 17 May 2019.

The US Defense Cooperation Agency announced on 11 July 2017 that the US State Department had approved the USD3.9 billion Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Romania of seven Patriot Configuration 3+ fire units consisting of seven AN/MPQ-65 radar sets, seven AN/MSQ-132 engagement control stations, 13 antenna mast groups, 28 M903 launching stations, 56 Patriot MIM-104E Guidance Enhanced Missile-TBM (GEM-T) missiles, and 168 Patriot Advanced Capabilty-3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptor missiles to Romania.

Raytheon announced on 29 November 2017 that Romania had signed a letter of offer and acceptance to buy Patriot Configuration 3+, GEM-T, and PAC-3 interceptor missiles.

In May 2018 the US Army awarded Raytheon a contract worth nearly USD400 million to build Romania‘s first Patriot system.

The Romanian government signed an agreement with the US Army and transferred funding to the US government to purchase three more Patriot systems through the FMS process, as was the first system, Raytheon announced on 1 November 2018.
