The US Department of Defense (DoD) has awarded the first contract for Poland's Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian buy since the eastern European NATO country signed for the attack helicopter in August 2024.
GE Aerospace announced on 8 January that it has been contracted to supply 210 of its T700 engines to power 96 helicopters (plus spares) under Poland's Kruk (Raven) requirement.
“The engine order follows a co-operative agreement signed in August 2024 between GE Aerospace and the Polish Ministry of National Defence (MND),” GE Aerospace said, adding, “The engines will be built and delivered under a contract with the US Army through the US government's Foreign Military Sales (FMS) process.”
As noted in the announcement, the co-operative agreement signed with Poland will see Military Aviation Works in Dęblin (Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze NR 1 SA: WZL-1) provide licensed maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) support for the T700 engines on the Apache and the Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk, as well as for CT7 engines on Leonardo AW149 and AW101 helicopters that are also in the Polish Armed Forces aircraft fleet. Military University of Technology in Warsaw (Wojskowa Akademia Techniczna: WAT) will manage training, including T700/CT7 engine training, for Polish technicians, military personnel, and WZL-1 employees who will support the helicopter fleet as well as preparing future engineering staff for the Polish Armed Forces.
