• Tawazun invests in Russian Aurus vehicles [IDEX19D4]

    Tawazun Economic Council, through its recently launched Defense and Security Development Fund, signed an agreement with Russia’s Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engine Institute “NAMI” to invest in the Aurus brand, which specialises in luxury and armed vehicles. The AED460 million (about €110 million) investment for a 36 per cent share will be directed towards the development of the company’s manufacturing facilities and capabilities.

    Aquila Aerospace at Abu Dhabi’s Al Bateen Airport has secured a contract to modify a Bombardier Challenger 650 aircraft to a multimission configuration for the UAE Air Force. A follow-on contract for a second aircraft is expected to be awarded later. The aircraft will be equipped for a variety of missions, including maritime surveillance.

    French robotics, automation and industrial group ECA (Stand 07-B57) has unveiled its new ‘unsinkable’ Inspector 125 unmanned surface vehicle (USV).

  • Joint venture in naval sector [IDEX19D4]

    Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI, Stand 12-D22) and France’s Naval Group (Stand 07- B15) have signed a preliminary agreement to create a joint venture in the Kingdom focused on the naval sector.

    The Optronics business line of German sensor house Hensoldt (Stands 09-B11, 09-B18) is to establish a joint venture (JV) with local company Atlas One-to-One Services LLC.

  • Precision-guided bombs [IDEX19D4]

    Barij Dynamics is showing a range of precision-guided air-launched munitions as part of the EDIC display (Stand 05-A05). The enterprise, which is now a joint venture between EDIC and Denel Dynamics, was previously known as Tawazun Dynamics, but changed its name following its switch to EDIC.

    Munich-based Rohde & Schwarz (Stand 08-C19, German Pavilion) is showing a range of its innovative technologies, including its SOVERON holistic system solution, writes Sam J Basch.

  • Launch of a new Hero [IDEX19D4]

    On 15 February, Leonardo not only opened a new manufacturing facility in Pisa, but also unveiled the AWHero production-ready version of its Hero multi-role rotary unmanned air system (RUAS). The AWHero will be the factory’s first main product.

    Locally based Streit Group has a major presence at IDEX (Stand CP-219) and at NAVDEX (OW-B). More than 20 wheeled armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) are being shown, which range from light patrol vehicles up to Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) type vehicles. Some 14 of its vehicles are taking part in the mobility demonstration, plus its Triton-980 armoured boat.

  • Defeating drones on the move [IDEX19D4]

    AVT Australia, formerly known as UAV Vision, is showcasing its expertise in gyro-stabilised imaging systems and solutions for counter-drone operations, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), and air defence as part of the Team Defence Australia display (Stand 07-C04). The company focuses on providing ITAR-free solutions in the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Export potential for Paladin [IDEX19D4]

    BAE Systems (Stand 05-C25) has brought a US Army M109A6 Paladin 155mm/39 calibre self-propelled howitzer to IDEX, because there is a perceived potential for future export sales in the region. This is an earlier M109, with an upgraded chassis, fitted with the new turret that retains the M284 155mm/39 calibre ordnance, plus a roof-mounted 12.7mm machine gun, supplied only to the US Army.

  • Fully automated surveillance [IDEX19D4]

    Azur Drones of France is showing its Skeyetech drone system, part of the company’s Drones’guard surveillance and reconnaissance solutions. The system is on show as part of the presentation by Etimad (Stand 04-C10), which is the Abu Dhabi distributor for the system.

    Greek company EODH (Stand 08-D47) has revealed some details of its new Advanced Shielding Platform Integrated System (ASPIS), which it is developing as a private venture and for which development is expected to be completed in about a year’s time.

    Australia-based Trakka Systems, present at IDEX with Emirati company Bin Hilal Enterprises (Stand C8- 001) is showing its new-generation TC-300G-S compact high-performance multisensor surveillance system.

  • Heavy truck gears up for testing [IDEX19D4]

    Mack Defense (IGG Stand 04- C20) has begun building five production-standard M917A3 heavy dump trucks (HDTs), based on the civilian Granite series. The vehicles are being built as part of a US Army contract to conduct production vehicle testing on its armoured and armour-capable HDTs. After completion, the trucks will be dispatched in the summer to the Army’s Aberdeen Test Center in Maryland, where they will be subjected to 40 weeks of rigorous durability trials.

  • Watercat sharpens its claws [IDEX19D4]

    Finnish boatbuilder Marine Alutech Oy (Stand C-014) is showcasing its new Watercat M22 AMC patrol craft design. Based in Salo, southwest Finland, Marine Alutech specialises in the design and manufacture of fast patrol boats and government vessels. The company has extensive experience in both aluminium and composite boat construction.

  • Deal to support patrol boats in KSA [IDEX19D4]

    SAFE Boats International of the USA (StandA-034) and Al Blagha Industrial Company (Stand A-035) have concluded a teaming agreement for the long-term service, support and production of SAFE Boats’ products, including the Mk VI patrol boat, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

  • Small but potent [IDEX19D4]

    With its menacing weapons on a low platform, the Badger unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) from Advanced One, part of the Remah International Group (Stand CP-310, UAE Pavilion), reminds one of the fearless animal after which it is named. The UAE designed and developed Badger was officially launched at IDEX this week.
