Active Protection Systems Focus Day - 13th November 2018

Conference - 14th-15th November 2018

Copthorne Tara Hotel, London, UK

SMi is delighted to announce the return of the sell-out Future Armoured Vehicles Survivability symposium, taking place in London between the 13th-15th November 2018.

As the only event purely dedicated to the area of vehicle protection, Future Armoured Vehicles Survivability 2018 will deliver a strong focus on the relationship between current requirements, emerging technologies and how these might be leveraged to enhance force protection.

Building on 2017’s focus day, SMi will host an exclusive pre-conference Active Protection Systems focus day, dedicated to this important capability. At the meeting, experts from the most forward-thinking nations will deliberate on the best way to integrate APS, the architectures necessary to support integration, efforts to ensure system safety, STANAG 4686 standardisation and much more. The focus day will guarantee the support of technical experts from leading solution providers, covering the latest hard/soft kill systems, sensors, data processing, munitions and countermeasures.

On 14th-15th November, the two-day conference will aim to further cover the core areas of survivability in detail, exploring the latest platforms, vehicle architectures, active/passive protection, mobility, counter-IED, un-manned/autonomous solutions, signature management and stealth.

SMi are thrilled to announce the return of Maritime Information Warfare conference, now in its second year, taking place on 26th and 27th November 2018, in London.

With rapid technological advances in information technology, the ability to utilise and manage information more effectively has become a critical component of naval warfare. Harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence, defending networks against complex cyber threats, and developing combat information systems to enhance command and control are all crucial to increasing information superiority and gaining an operational advantage. Therefore, navies are recognising the need to prioritise ‘Information Warfare’, to maintain strength in the maritime sphere.

With this in mind, and building on the Royal Navy's Information Warrior Exercise, the two-day conference will explore themes such as: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Information Exploitation, Cyber Electromagnetic Activity (CEMA), Command Control Communication and Computers (C4), Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR).

In particular, there will be a focus on information systems, machine learning, new methods of data analysis, the growing need for automation in naval assets, and strategies for naval cyber warfare and defence.

  • The first and only event that approaches the concept of ‘information warfare’ in the maritime domain, and the need to embrace information to enhance naval operational effectiveness.
  • Hear comprehensive technical briefings from the Royal Navy and other leading maritime experts on Artificial Intelligence, big data analysis, open source intelligence gathering and C4i combat information systems.
  • Detailed focus on naval cyber warfare and how major European naval forces are approaching cyber defence of maritime assets and networks.
  • Meet cutting-edge technology providers at the forefront of delivering artificial intelligence, information technology, and cyber defence solutions.

The 2018 AUSA Army Autonomy and AI Symposium & Exposition will take place at the COBO Center in Detroit, Michigan on November 28-29. This year’s theme is “Autonomy, Robotics and AI in the Future Force.”

This new event will explore and showcase innovative ways the U.S. Army is developing critical capabilities in robotics, autonomy, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The goals are to explore how the Army-Industry team can best collaborate to achieve cost-effective, innovative solutions to military problems, seamlessly reallocate resources as conditions change, and with the speed and efficiency that adversaries cannot match.

The key objective of this event will be to provide an open forum for attendees to interact and participate in discussions about the Army’s efforts to develop autonomous capabilities in all domains. It will also provide a platform for industry partners to demonstrate breakthroughs that could help the U.S. Army take full advantage of this technologies across all Army requirements.

SMi is proud to present the 8th annual Social Media in the Defence and Military Sector conference, taking place on the 28th and 29th November in London, United Kingdom.

Social media has become an increasingly vital tool for the Armed Forces in the 21st Century, not only to reach out to a wider and younger audience globally for recruitment and information purposes but as a new front in warfare. Serving military and government personnel have access to new platforms and information, leading to an increase in their personal communications but also an increase in information risk management. Social media channels are also heavily sued to promote armed forces’ activities abroad and increasing transparency with host societies (a strong part of the “Hearts and Minds” campaigns).

This event is primarily focused on how the military and defence agencies use social media in their day-to-day activities such as communication, recruitment, and during operations and campaigns. This year will also feature sessions on cyber warfare and using social media platforms for open-source intelligence gathering.

This event is CPD accredited.

This year's conference will enhance understanding of social media usage and increase awareness and engagement between the military and the public.

Building on the 2017 event, the 2018 event promises to delve deeper into the role of cyber warfare and civil-military relations. Hear from experts from government agencies on how they use social media to promote their campaigns and engage directly with the public. Get updates from the platforms themselves and how they engage with the defence and military sector.

The 19th annual Military Airlift and Air-Air Refuelling conference and exhibition will return to Rome on the 4th and 5th December 2018, with a brand-new pre-conference focus day on Air-Air Refuelling on the 3rd December 2018.

With the airlift sector in constant development, there are more than 800 new platforms set to be delivered at a combined value over $65 billion in the next 10 years. The need to transport troops, cargo, medical supplies, vehicles and other mission critical equipment remains fundamental to any defence force that aims to deploy globally. The importance of ready rapid response to ensure these forces can be mobilised and moved quickly is crucial for any expeditionary operation.

Sustaining and maintaining this air mobility feeds into the second aspect of this important event. Air-to-Air refuelling remains vital to deliver extended flight time for both transport and strike components of an air force and without which extended aerial deployments would simply not be possible.

• Forward basing and expeditionary operations

• International operability

• Airlift platform acquisition

• Air-air refuelling
