US Army officials within the service's primary information systems and networking technology directorates are working to merge two major programmes – data analytics and combat management – into a cohesive capability, with the goal of leveraging the new, joint programme into the army's burgeoning data fabric development effort.

Programme officials from Program Executive Office Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS) and Program Executive Office Command, Control, and Communications – Tactical (PEO C3T) are in the midst of consolidating PEO EIS's ‘Vantage' data analytics and visualisation platform with PEO C3T's Command Post Computing Environment (CPCE) programme, US Army Chief Information Officer (CIO) Raj Iyer said.

“We are working really hard right now to bring together two PEOs in the army that have focused on different perspectives” regarding data management ... “[and] we are e-merging these two [programmes] and looking at the best-of-breed solutions that we have across the army”, according to Iyer, who discussed the programme merger during an Army Information Technology (IT) symposium, held by the Potomac Officers Club in late June.

The Vantage programme is an advanced enterprise data analytics platform that enables access to current and legacy service databases, army-wide, according to a service fact sheet. Previously known as the Army Leader Dashboard programme, Vantage was designed as a commercial-based, cloud-hosted ‘software as-a-service' programme. Vantage can operate across unclassified and classified army networks, the fact sheet stated. “It supports advanced analytics, collaboration, metadata management, reproducibility, scalability, and role-based security, while also reducing the technical barriers to entry,” it added.
