Russia to extend service life of UR-100N ‘Stiletto' ICBM to 2023

The service life of Russia's UR-100N (SS-19 ‘Stiletto') intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) is to be extended to 2023, NPO Mashinostroyenia general director Alexander Leonov told the RIA Novosti news agency on 18 October.

The last UR-100N missile was delivered to Soviet forces in 1985 with a guaranteed service life of 10 years, which Leonov said was repeatedly extended by checking the missile's fuel tanks, the condition of the liquid propellant, and the safety margins of the load-bearing structures.

Russian forces receive 9M333 SAMs

The Russian MoD has taken delivery of 9M333 SAMs for its Strela-10M3 short-range air defence systems. (Russian MoD)

The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has received “the first mass deliveries” of 9M333 surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) from Kalashnikov, Rostec announced on its website on 18 November.

Rostec said the new missile is designed to arm the Strela-10M3 air defence system 9A34M3 and 9A35M3 combat vehicles. It replaces legacy 9M37 missiles, which only had a dual-mode seeker.

Turkey to build cartridge factory in Mongolia

Turkey's Machine and Chemical Industry Inc (MKE) will build a cartridge loading and assembly factory in Mongolia under a contract signed with Mongolia's Defence Industry Board on 15 November.

The factory will have a yearly capacity of producing 10 million cartridges, Yasin Akdere, MKE general manager, said during the signing ceremony at MKE's Gazi Fişek fireworks factory in Ankara, Turkey's capital.

In July, MKE signed a contract with the Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB) for the supply and installation of cartridge loading and assembly and bullet and shell production lines.
