The Direction Générale de l'Armement (DGA), the French defence procurement agency, has awarded Nexter a contract for 109 CAESAR 6×6 Mk II new generation self-propelled howitzers (SPHs), KNDS (KMW+Nexter Defense Systems) announced in a press release on 2 February. Later the same day, a KNDS spokesperson confirmed to
that all 109 CAESARs would be newbuilds, with deliveries beginning in 2026.
Development of the CAESAR Mk II has been under way since it was launched in December 2021. It will replace the French Army's AuF1 tracked SPHs and CAESAR Mk Is. The order is foreseen by France's Loi de Programmation Militaire 2024–2030 military funding programme.
It includes support of the CAESAR Mk II during its first two years in service. The DGA and Nexter have also signed a framework agreement allowing France to acquire CAESAR and support services for partner countries.
Nexter plans to deliver all 109 CAESAR 6×6 Mark IIs to the French Army's artillery regiments by 2031.
Ukraine conflict: Sweden presents its largest military support package for Kyiv

Sweden and Denmark have agreed to co-finance the 50 Swedish CV90s donated to Ukraine and for the production of additional IFVs. (Hägglunds)
The Swedish government announced its largest military support package for Ukraine on its website on 20 February. The SEK7.1 billion (USD683 million) package includes a maritime package, ground equipment, and financial support for bilateral projects and funds.
The latter includes financial support for Ukraine to buy more CV90 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).
The ground equipment Sweden is donating comprises 155 mm artillery shells, an RBS 70 air-defence system, TOW anti-tank guided weapons, recoilless rifles, hand grenades, medical equipment, medical transport vehicles, and rations.
The maritime package comprises 10 Combat Boat 90 (CB90) fast assault craft, 20 Group Boat (G-boat) landing craft, and underwater weapons worth around SEK1.1 billion.
The Danish Ministry of Defence announced on 18 December 2023 that Copenhagen and Stockholm had agreed to co-finance the 50 CV90s that Sweden has already donated to Ukraine and for the production of additional IFVs. Singapore Airshow 2024: ST Engineering unveils Terrex s5

Singapore defence prime ST Engineering has launched the latest iteration in its Terrex 8×8 line of infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).
Known as the Terrex s5, the variant was launched on 18 February, ahead of the Singapore Airshow 2024 exhibition taking place from 20 to 25 February at the Changi Exhibition Centre.
“Equipped with advanced vetronics and a hybrid electric drive option, it is a production-ready, 8×8 armoured fighting vehicle”, utilising the portmanteau of vehicle and electronics, a statement issued by ST Engineering reads.
“Its modular design and ability to transverse various terrains allows the vehicle to be highly configurable to a wide range of mission roles,” the company added.
Similar to its predecessor the Terrex 3, the Terrex s5 has a gross vehicle weight of 35,000 kg. However, it can carry a slightly heavier payload of 13,000 kg compared with the 12,000 kg payload of the Terrex 3 and it can accommodate a crew of two plus 10 troopers.
Texelis, PT SSE sign agreement to develop armoured personnel carrier

French vehicle chassis manufacturer Texelis and Indonesian vehicle manufacturer PT Sentra Surya Ekajayais (PT SSE) have signed a partnership agreement to develop an armoured personnel carrier (APC) for the Indonesian National Armed Forces.
According to a press release by Texelis on 15 February, the company will supply an undisclosed number of Celeris 4×4 chassis kits to PT SSE and will also provide “complete development and support package to customise the mobility solution [chassis] for PT SSE's needs” as part of the agreement.
The Celeris 4×4 chassis features 12 base kits including axle, powerpack, transmission, transfer case, steering system, and so on. According to Texelis, the chassis also comprises 30 optional kits depending on the configuration of the vehicle.
Under this partnership agreement, Texelis will deliver the initial kits for the Celeris 4×4 chassis to PT SSE in the first half of 2024 and the first prototype of the APC is expected to roll out before the end of 2024.
