Tekever has integrated a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) payload on its AR5 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the company announced at IDEX 2023 being held in Abu Dhabi from 20 to 24 February.

Developed by the company's space division, GAMASAR can detect objects in challenging environments during the day and night, extending the operational capabilities of the platform.

It is intended to support both maritime and land-based surveillance missions.

Tekever's Paulo Ferro told Janes that the payload began development in 2019 and is designed to have an optimum form fit factor. He was unable to elaborate on any customers.

GAMASAR has also been integrated on the company's AR3 vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAV.

AR5 is a medium-altitude, medium-endurance UAV designed for maritime patrol, surveillance, and search and rescue missions. The aircraft's payload fit can include electro-optical and infrared sensors, maritime radar, and an automatic identification system (AIS), among others.

Tekever's space division is also developing SAR payloads that will “support micro-satellite constellations through the use of advanced AI”.
