The Boxer RRV consists of a Boxer drive module fitted with the ARM mission module. The new version of the RRV presented at IAV will require the drive module to be fitted with a power take-off. (FFG)
Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG) has implemented several changes to its proposed Boxer Repair and Recovery Vehicle (RRV) variant, the company revealed during a presentation at Defence iQ's International Armoured Vehicles (IAV) 2023 conference, which was held in London from 23 to 26 January.
The modifications include changes to both the Boxer drive module and FFG's Armoured Recovery Module (ARM) mission module, which combined form the Boxer RRV.
The original variant of the RRV presented in 2019 utilised a lithium-ion battery pack to power the equipment on the ARM, whereas the new version is powered by a switchable power take-off (PTO) from the drive module's powerpack. This requires the installation of a modified angular gearbox on the powerpack and three holes to be provided in the drive module's rear wall for hydraulic lines to feed into the mission module. Drive modules configured in this way are also required for the Boxer bridgelayer mission module.
