Saab is pitching its ‘Sirius Compact' passive electronic warfare (EW) sensor, launched in May 2022, to countries in the Asia-Pacific, a company official told Janes at the DSEI Japan 2023 show being held in Chiba.

Janes understands that Saab has demonstrated the Sirius Compact to the armed forces of a Northeast Asian country. Saab has also received requests from a South Asian military for demonstrations and is expected to conduct them soon.

According to Saab, the Sirius Compact is an installation and datalink agnostic sensor, which can be mounted on a multitude of platforms including ground vehicles, naval vessels, masts, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), as well as carried by soldiers. It enables assimilation and compilation of intelligence information without storing sensitive data in the sensor.

The company said that the Sirius Compact has been developed to provide situational awareness at all operational levels, either in a standalone or networked configuration. The system can provide electronic support, direction finding, and geolocation by triangulation.
