South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) outlined its proposals to meet Malaysian requirements for a multi-role support ship (MRSS) and additional littoral mission ships (LMSs) at the Defence Services Asia 2022 (DSA 2022) exhibition in Kuala Lumpur.
A company official told Janes on 30 March that it will bid for the Royal Malaysian Navy's (RMN's) MRSS programme with its HDL-13000 design, and for the service's LMS requirement, the company is proposing a 91.4 m design powered by engines in a combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) configuration.
The official said that the HDL-13000 was designed two years ago to meet the RMN's requirement for an MRSS platform. The vessel has been designed to meet the RMN's needs for logistics support, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations.
The HDL-13000 has a length of 160 m, a beam of 25 m, and displaces 13,000 tonnes. HHI said a prominent aspect of the design is the vessel's enclosed vehicle deck, which runs from bow to stern.
