Mubadala to partially float Yahsat

The UAE's state-owned investment fund Mubadala announced on 21 June that it is floating a 30–40% stake in satellite communications subsidiary Yahsat.

The listing on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) will involve a public offering to individual and other investors within the UAE, and a separate offering to qualified institutional and other investors in the country and from abroad.

Shares are being sold with a nominal value of AED1.00 (USD0.27), with the value of each share to be determined through a book-building process. Between 731.9 million and 975.9 million shares have been earmarked for issuance.

A timetable for the listing published in UAE-based newspaper The National noted that the expected date of listing on the ADX is 14 July.

Hadean, 4C Strategies integrate products to reduce training burden

Hadean and 4C Strategies have successfully integrated a constructive simulation with Exonaut exercise management software, utilising Hadean's spatial computing platform.

The integrated solution, displayed at the International Training Technology Exhibition & Conference (IT²EC) 2024 in London, enabled Hadean's Pattern of Life Indicator (POLI) constructive simulation to be controlled from within 4C Strategies Exonaut software.

Exonaut is widely used in the UK and NATO as an exercise management tool, while constructive simulation is fundamental to effective command and staff training. Integrating the two previously separate functions offers the potential to improve training.

US Navy secretary calls for funds to replenish weapons stocks after defence against Iranian attacks

After providing defence against recent Iranian missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks – as well as other attacks in or near the Red Sea – the US Navy (USN) needs funding to restock its weapons inventory, USN Secretary Carlos Del Toro testified on 16 April during a Senate Appropriations Committee (SAC) hearing on navy posture.

Estimating that the navy has defended against about 130 attacks in recent months, Del Toro said, “Prior to the [Iranian] attack we had this weekend, we were closely approaching USD1 billion [used] for munitions. We need to pay that back through the supplemental [funding bill], which Congress can pass this weekend.”

“We've been flying SM [Standard Missile]-2s, SM-6s and SM-3s over the weekend for threats from Iran,” he added.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces, supported by US European Command destroyers, successfully engaged and destroyed more than 80 one-way attack (OWA) UAVs and at least six ballistic missiles intended to strike Israel from Iran and Yemen on 13 April and the morning of 14 April, CENTCOM said in a public release.

Navy League 2024: Australia's Hypersonix Launch Systems prepares to demonstrate DART scramjet-powered aircraft for DIU

Hypersonix Launch Systems, headquartered in Brisbane, is building a hypersonic test vehicle for the Defense Innovation Unit's (DIU's) hypersonic and high-cadence testing capabilities (HyCAT) programme. DIU issued a solicitation for the project in September 2022. Hypersonix Launch Systems was awarded a contract for scoping the work in March 2023, and a launch contract in September 2023, Matt Hill, Hypersonix Launch Systems CEO, told Janes on 9 April at the Navy League Sea-Air-Space 2024 global maritime exposition in National Harbor, Maryland.

The programme calls for an airborne test vehicle “that can maintain speeds above Mach 5 with a manoeuvrable/non-ballistic flight profile and at least a three-minute flight duration with near-constant flight conditions”, according to a DIU statement in April 2023.

Construction of the first DART air vehicle is under way, and Hypersonix Launch Systems recently completed the component-level preliminary design review, Hill said. Rocket Lab will provide the launch capabilities for the system for the initial test flight.
