Lockheed Martin launched the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) FLEX system on 16 June 2026. The company said in a press release that HIMARS FLEX would use its new ‘FLEXFires technology ecosystem' to provide new munition and autonomy options, enabling more mission capability while retaining the accuracy of HIMARS.
Lockheed Martin said HIMARS FLEX, based on HIMARS, which is combat proven, with over 2.5 million operating hours around the world. The company added that the system is interoperable, with the ability to share munitions in NATO stockpiles and integrate into joint fire control networks.
HIMARS FLEX can use Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS), extended range ER GMLRS, Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM), Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), and Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) surface-to-air missiles. Lockheed Martin is displaying ER GMLRS and PrSM mock-ups at its stand at the Eurosatory 2026 defence exhibition being held in Paris on 15-19 June.
The company said that HIMARS FLEX has dual pod configurations, doubling the system's offensive firepower and configuring it for air and missile defence with PAC-3 and Indirect Fire Protection Capability (IFPC) munitions. Carolyn Orzechowski, Lockheed Martin's vice president for precision fires, launchers, and missiles, told Janes at Eurosatory 2026 on 17 June that HIMARS loadout numbers had been doubled to eight PAC-3s, four PrSMs, 12 GMLRS/ER GMLRS, and two ATACMS, with the capacity to fire 12 or more IFPC interceptors.
