Euronaval 2026: BAE Systems unveils four configurations of scalable 40 mm naval gun

BAE Systems has presented four mission-specific systems based on its Bofors 40 mm Mk 4 gun, paired with its pre-fragmented, programmable, proximity-fuzed (3P) ammunition, as options for defence against air and surface threats. The modular family, unveiled at the Euronaval 2026 exhibition, held in Paris from 3-6 November, offers different levels of sensor integration, fire-control capability, and platform compatibility, while retaining commonality in armament, training, logistics, and support.
Mk 4
The Bofors 40 Mk 4 is the family's established naval gun. It is a fully automated, multi-role system for engaging air and surface targets, with a stated rate of fire of 300 rounds per minute. It can fire 3P ammunition and is in service with nine countries.
Sea Tridon
Sea Tridon is a naval variant of the land-based Tridon. BAE Systems unveiled its land-based Tridon Mk2 land-based 40 mm air-defence system at Eurosatory 2024, held from 17–21 June that year.
