Australian maritime autonomy developer Greenroom Robotics is seeking opportunities in the Australian Army's emerging littoral fleet, citing growing interest in autonomy-enabled maritime operations following the service's shift towards littoral warfare.
Speaking to Janes ahead of the Land Forces 2026 defence show, which was held in Perth from 6 to 8 October, Greenroom Robotics CEO Pete Quinn said the company's attendance at the exhibition reflects the Australian Army's increasing maritime focus under the Defence Strategic Review (DSR) and subsequent policy initiatives, particularly the development of a new fleet of vessels under Project Land 8710.
“I think one of the key reasons that Greenroom Robotics is at Land Forces is because of army's shift to littoral warfighting,” Quinn said. “The army is really changing its focus to operating in the littoral.”
Under Land 8710, the Australian Army is acquiring a fleet of Landing Craft Medium (LCM) and Landing Craft Heavy (LCH) vessels as part of its broader transition towards maritime manoeuvre operations. Quinn said the programme presents an opportunity to incorporate autonomy from the outset rather than as a later capability upgrade.
“We think that the capabilities that Greenroom's got will potentially play a key role,” he said.
Greenroom specialises in maritime autonomy and perception software. Its principal product, Gamma, functions as a vessel autonomy and navigation system that interfaces with steering, propulsion, health-monitoring systems, and onboard sensors.
Quinn described Gamma as the ‘brains' of a vessel, capable of receiving sensor inputs, interpreting digital nautical charts, generating navigation decisions, and transmitting manoeuvring commands to the ship.
