Second Indonesian PKR frigate completes testing for combat systems upgrade

Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) and its Indonesian partner PT PAL have completed the integration and test of a package of combat system enhancements to the second of the Indonesian Navy’s ((Tentara Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Laut: TNI-AL) two SIGMA 10514 Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR) guided-missile frigates.

KRI Gusti Ngurah Rai (332) completed sea acceptance tests in February. This is the final phase of testing before redelivery to the TNI-AL.

Construction of Gusti Ngurah Rai and first-of-class KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata (331), both of which were commissioned into the TNI-AL in 2017, was shared between the Vlissingen, Netherlands, facility of DSNS and the PT PAL shipyard in Surabaya, with final assembly, integration, and test performed in Indonesia. Each vessel was assembled using six major block modules: DSNS built the two most complex modules (the mast/bridge/operations block and the main machinery module) at Vlissingen, with the remaining four (the forward and stern hull modules and the mid and aft superstructure blocks) built by PT PAL under the supervision of DSNS.
