On 29 October 2026 Finnish company Rauma Marine Constructions launched the Finnish Navy's third Pohjanmaa-class multi-purpose corvette.
The fourth and final vessel in the class had its keel laid in August. The four vessels are under construction simultaneously under the Finnish Navy's Squadron 2020 modernisation programme.
RMC CEO Mika Nieminen told Janes during a press briefing that “the first hull took a year and a half to build while the fourth will be completed in less than a year. With true industrial series production thinking, we could attain a time as little as six months. During the period when #1 was and is being built, changes can be quickly made to the ships following on.”
Brigadier General Engineering Juha-Matti Ylitalo, Deputy Chief of the Finnish Forces Logistics Command, said at the briefing that there had been and will still be challenges in completing the vessels, highlighting the limited space to accommodate so many systems and equipment. Commander of the Finnish Navy Rear Admiral Tuomas Tiilikainen said that so far, the project had kept to its timetable, with completion of all four vessels expected by 2029.
The four Pohjanmaa-class corvettes are being built by Rauma Marine Constructions' subsidiary RMC Defence under a EUR647.6 million (USD708.3 million) design and construction contract signed with the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command on 26 September 2019, following government approval on 19 September. The wider Squadron 2020 programme had received EUR1.232 billion in Finland's 2018 budget, with its total cost rising to EUR1.32548 billion at the September 2019 procurement decision, including combat systems and other expenditure beyond ship construction.
