The ship for the Tamandaré-class Frigate Program (PFCT), F Tamandaré (F200), was launched on 9 August by thyssenkrupp Estaleiro Brasil Sul (tkEBS), the Brazilian Navy confirmed to Janes .

The first of four MEKO A-100MB multi-purpose light frigates for the Brazilian Navy, F Tamandaré is scheduled for commissioning by Surface Force Command in December 2025, Director of the Navy Program Management Directorate (DGePM) Rear Admiral Carlos Roberto Rocha e Silva Junior told Janes in a separate interview before the launch.

Construction of the frigate started in September 2022.

Shipbuilder tkEBS started building the second frigate, F Jerônimo de Albuquerque (F201), in November 2023. This ship is due for commissioning in February 2027, Rear Adm Roberto said.

Rear Adm Roberto said that the remaining frigates, F Cunha Moreira (F202) and F Mariz e Barros (F203), are scheduled to be commissioned in February 2028 and February 2029 respectively.

The frigates were purchased by state-owned company Empresa Gerencial de Projetos Navais (EMGEPRON) from the joint venture Águas Azuis (formed by thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, Embraer, and Atech) in March 2020.
