MBDA has completed the first firing trial of the new Brimstone 3 precision strike missile.

Conducted at the Vidsel Test Range, Sweden, in February in temperatures below -30°C, a Brimstone 3 missile was surface-launched against a static target, represented by a pick-up truck. MBDA said that all trial objectives were fully achieved, with the missile proving – through a telemetry unit – full closed loop guidance with the seeker progressing into target acquisition and track.

The product of a GBP400 million (USD528.8 million) Capability Sustainment Programme (CSP) contract awarded to MBDA by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) in March 2018, Brimstone 3 is a spirally developed evolution of the 50kg-class Brimstone 2 precision-guided air-to-surface missile (ASM).
