USMC awards contract for ACV recovery variant
US Marine Corps is replacing its legacy Amphibious Assault Vehicle with the ACV. (15th Marine Expeditionary Unit)
BAE Systems won a USD230.1 million contract to build the Amphibious Combat Vehicle Recovery mission role variant (ACV-R), according to a recent Department of Defense (DoD) statement.
BAE Systems, the incumbent contractor on the programme, will build the last variant in the ACV family through 2029, according to a company statement on 8 October. The total ACV contract, if all options are exercised, could be worth up to USD4 billion, according to the DoD statement on 30 September.
The contract supports the manufacture of 32 full-rate production vehicles, which would be completed by November 2028, according to the DoD statement.
The company has already been put on contract for the initial three variants, the ACV with a 30 mm cannon, the personnel carrier ACV, and the command vehicle ACV. In total, the marines plan to order 34 recovery mission variant, according to a Congressional Research Service report published in October 2026. The acquisition objective for the entire programme is 608 vehicles, according to the report.
Compared to the other variants, the vehicle has a turret-mounted crane that can be used for maintenance and recovering vehicles, according to the report.
