PGZ and MBDA agree delivery schedule for Narew SHORAD components

MBDA and the PGZ-Narew consortium have signed a contract on the schedule and terms of the European missile house's delivery of components for the Narew SHORAD system. (PGZ)

MBDA and the PGZ-Narew consortium announced on 25 April that they had signed a contract on the schedule and terms of the European missile house's delivery of components for the Narew short-range air-defence (SHORAD) system. The companies said in a joint press release that the contract would allow the integration of the MBDA launcher and missiles with associated radars and a command-and-control system produced by the Polish defence industry.

MBDA will deliver Common Anti-Air Modular Missile (CAMM) effectors and iLaunchers that will be integrated by the members of the PGZ-Narew consortium into a Polish Jelcz 8×8 truck chassis, transporter and loader vehicles, and deployable Soła 3D radars under a contract signed on 14 April for a rapidly delivered interim Narew capability with two firing units each for the Polish Armed Forces. The first unit should be delivered in September and the second one at the end of 2022 or beginning of 2023, according to the Polish Ministry of National Defence.

Sebastian Chwałek, president of PGZ's management board, said the 25 April contract is “another step towards concluding a strategic agreement with our British partner in the production of launchers and missiles at our plants”.

The Narew programme intends to develop and deliver components and subsystems for 23 SHORAD missile systems, as well as the acquisition of technology and knowledge, building industrial capacities, project management and system integration by the Polish defence industry, MBDA and PGZ said.
