Mercury Systems to buy avionics firm Avalex
US defence electronics supplier Mercury Systems plans to expand its offering by acquiring avionics business Avalex Technologies for USD155 million in cash, Mercury announced on 27 September.
Avalex, which is based in Gulf Breeze, Florida, near Pensacola, serves both military and commercial customers. Its products include rugged displays, integrated communications management systems, digital video recorders, and warning systems.
“Avalex's product and technology portfolio is highly complementary to Mercury's existing offering,” said Mercury president and CEO Mark Aslett.
Avalex employs about 100 people and projects it will generate about USD40 million in revenue in 2022. Jurgen “Tad” Inhs, who founded Avalex in 1992, will continue to lead the company.
Mercury intends to fund the acquisition with cash on hand and an existing line of credit. It expects to close the deal by December.
The announcement came four months after Mercury paid about USD65 million for New Jersey-based Pentek, which makes data acquisition boards, data recorders, and software-defined radios.
