DroneShield plans to integrate Australian company Aim Defence's Fractl laser system with its DroneSentry counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) for sensing and defeat capabilities.
A DroneShield spokesperson told Janes on 18 September that the agreement with Aim Defence is intended to establish a technology roadmap to support the delivery of integrated C-UAS capabilities to end-users.
The spokesperson said the collaboration contributes to DroneShield's wider ecosystem of third-party sensors and effectors, providing customers with operational flexibility.
“The planned technical connection is between DroneShield's command-and-control capability and Aim Defence's Fractl system, with the integration intended to improve interoperability across the C-UAS workflow by enabling information sharing and co-ordinated operations between detection, tracking, and defeat systems,” the spokesperson added.
According to DroneShield, the integration enables operators to co-ordinate radio frequency (RF) sensing, artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled software, sensor fusion, command-and-control functions, and directed-energy engagement from a common operating environment.
DroneSentry utilises SensorFusionAI, a sensor-agnostic 3D data-fusion system that combines data from multiple sensor types to improve situational awareness and accuracy, and reduce false positives.
The spokesperson said that, by combining RF detections with radar and electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) tracking data, SensorFusionAI and Fractl could contribute to a common operating picture that provides operators with “greater confidence” in target identification and tracking.
Each system will retain its specialised function while feeding data into the broader detection and tracking process, the spokesperson added.
