US approves additional MH-60R helicopters for Denmark

The US government has approved the sale to Denmark of Lockheed Martin MH-60R Seahawk maritime helicopters for an estimated USD425 million.
Announced by the US Department of State on 22 September 2026, the approval covers three anti-submarine warfare / anti-surface vessel warfare (ASW/ASuW) helicopters, as well as related equipment, training, and support.
“The proposed sale will improve Denmark's capability to meet current and future threats by providing increased security for its critical infrastructure. Denmark will use the enhanced capability to strengthen its homeland defence,” the state department said.
The Royal Danish Air Force (RDAF) already fields nine MH-60R helicopters, the first of which were received between 2016 and 2018. In Danish service, the MH-60R was initially focused on surface surveillance, ASuW, utility operations, and search and rescue. As such, the Thales AN/AQS-22 Advanced Low Frequency Sonar (ALFS) dipping sonar was not at first fitted on RDAF aircraft for an ASW capability, although this capability was later added.
The type is operated by the RDAF's Eskadrille (Squadron) 723 from Karup airbase, and is flown from a range of Royal Danish Navy vessels.
