Romania has received from the US an additional surplus Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules transport aircraft.

The US Ambassador to Romania, Darryl Nirenberg, announced the transfer of an Excess Defense Article (EDA) C-130 on 14 October 2026, saying the aircraft was handed over during a ceremony attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Romania Radu Miruță and other government dignitaries.

“This aircraft turns shared commitments into real capability—strengthening NATO's Eastern flank and Romania's defence capacity,” Ambassador Nirenberg said.

The aircraft delivered to the Romanian Air Force (RoAF) at the 90th Air Transport Base at Bucharest-Otopeni/Henri Coanda International Airport was a former US Air Force (USAF) C-130H. As noted by Janes World Air Forces, prior to this delivery the RoAF operated four C-130B and four C-130H EDA aircraft.

EDA airframes are offered to allied countries at no cost, other than the expense of refurbishment and shipping.
