The Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) has completed its acquisition of four Airbus C295MW aircraft with the delivery of the two final platforms.

Brunei ordered the four C295MW aircraft from Airbus Defence and Space SAU in December 2022. The first two aircraft were delivered in January 2024, while the final pair arrived at the Air Movement Centre, Rimba Air Force Base in Brunei, on 20 April, the Brunei Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) said.

“The two aircraft completed a seven-day ferry flight from the supplier's facility [in Spain], which began on 14 April,” MINDEF added.

According to MINDEF, the third and fourth aircraft have been designated ‘TUDB 504' and ‘TUDB 505'. The fleet will be operated by the RBAirF's No 15 Squadron from Rimba Air Force Base.

The baseline C295 aircraft has a maximum take-off weight (MToW) of 23,200 kg, a cruising speed of 260 kt, a maximum range of 2,477 n miles with maximum fuel, and an absolute ceiling of 9,145 m. The type is also known for its short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability, requiring a take-off run of 844 m and a landing distance of 420 m.

MINDEF said the C295MW's operational roles within the RBAirF include humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), medical evacuation (medevac), non-combatant evacuation operations, and search and rescue operations. MINDEF said the aircraft is also configurable for troop and cargo transport, VIP transport, free-fall and airborne static jumps, and cargo drops.
