A long-time requirement by the Brazilian Army to acquire vehicles for Special Operations Command (Comando de Operações Especiais) is finally set to materialise, the army revealed on 25 April.
The plan to buy 4×4 light tactical protection vehicles configured for the special operations role is part of a wider measure to enhance the capacity of the Special Operations Command.
No information about the number of vehicles to be procured and the acquisition schedules was revealed. However, the service intends to use the vehicles in urban scenarios, according to a press release.
This is the first time that Brazil has indicated a formal decision to consider acquiring such a type of specialised armoured vehicle.
The effort will be added to the ‘Army Strategic Program Armoured Forces', the army said.
