Codan Communications will launch its new Sentry-H 6110-MP lightweight software-defined HF radio at IDEX 2019.

Codan Communications has developed a new software-defined tactical manpack high-frequency (HF) radio and will launch it at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) 2019 in Abu Dhabi in February.

The Sentry-H 6110-MP was developed from Codan’s existing software-defined radio (SDR) products and the company claimed it is among the smallest and lightest tactical HF manpacks on the market, weighing less than 5 kg including the battery. It has up to 1,000 channels with 500 programmable contacts and 20 programmable networks; embedded GPS, Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS), and BeiDou; and an electronic counter-countermeasures (ECCM) capability with variable user-configurable hopping sequences and bandwidths. All the functionality in the radio is field-upgradeable via software updates.

AES-256 and CES-128 encryption are integrated in the radio and an external encryption device can be added via the standard handset connection. With Codan’s secure interoperability technology, which is programmed per channel, the radio can therefore operate up to three different communications security (COMSEC) protocols simultaneously.

The radio includes Codan’s Tri-Wave Excited Linear Prediction (TWELP) technology with a vocoder offering rates from 2,400 bps down to 300 bps, plus a new voice message calling capability. The latter enables the transmission of digital voice messages over a channel where neither digital nor analogue voice communication works. All received and sent voice messages are stored in the transceiver call log and can be replayed or forwarded to other stations at any time. The voice messages can also be optionally encrypted over the air with AES-256 encryption.
