Kraken Robotics showcased a trailer-mounted version of its Sentinel intruder detection system (IDS) at Apex Europe 2026 in London on 7–8 October.
Developed by Wavefront Systems, now part of Forcys, Sentinel joined Kraken's portfolio through its acquisition of Covelya Group in July 2026. Simon Goldsworthy, Kraken global business development manager – IDS, told Janes that Sentinel detects, classifies and tracks divers, swimmer delivery vehicles (SDVs) and uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs).
Sentinel uses simultaneous in-band active and passive sonar (SInAPS). Forcys' trailer datasheet lists detection ranges of up to 1,000 m for divers and UUVs and 1,500 m for crewed underwater vehicles.
The tripod-mounted sonar provides 360° coverage at 70 kHz, with a 20 kHz bandwidth providing 3.75 cm range resolution. Its 40 ms linear-period-modulated (LPM) pulse improves signal-to-noise performance and supports tracking of high-speed targets.
Goldsworthy said the system uses artificial intelligence to classify tracks and distinguish wildlife from humans and machines. “The system can therefore identify a threat and alert the user,” he said.
The trailer carries a Sentinel IDS and tripod with 65 m or 100 m cables, a diesel generator, air conditioning, monitoring equipment, a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver and a 10 m retractable communications mast. Forcys lists 80 hours of autonomous power.
Goldsworthy said the system can operate independently or in a wireless network of up to 10 trailers. Any trailer can serve as the command centre, or communicate with a separate control centre up to 6 km away.
