BOMA 2026: Speartooth LUUV makes appearance in Portugal

Australia-based C2 Robotics, through its European partner Eurobotics, presented its Speartooth large unmanned underwater vehicle (LUUV) during NATO's Bold Machina 2026 exercise which was held from 7-15 September at the Lisbon Naval Base, in Alfeite, Portugal.
The Speartooth used during Vignette 1, called Operate the Machine, was the 12 m long, 1 m diameter configuration fitted with two payload modules. The primary aim was to gather intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). “Another purpose with this particular layout would be for a harbour attack, for example, going into the harbour and releasing or resupplying,” a Eurobotics representative told Janes. The LUUV was fitted with a canister injection system to simulate payload release. The representative declined to share specific payload figures, saying only that, if the LUUV was used as a one-way effector fitted with an explosive payload, it could “put out of service” a frigate-type vessel.
The Speartooth is equipped with a Doppler Velocity Log (DVL), a sonar sensor, and an inertial navigation system (INS). “In a GNSS [global navigation satellite system] denied [environment], we will work with INS, and we also have an option to briefly surface and get a new fix,” the representative said.
