Thales Alenia Space, Radmor, and Airbus signed a cooperation agreement to develop a geostationary communications satellite for the Polish Ministry of National Defence (MND), according to a press release from Thales Alenia Space on 20 April 2026.

The new satellite communications (satcom) craft will have cybersecurity measures and anti-jamming technologies, as per the release. It is also part of the European Commission's Readiness Roadmap 2030. The roadmap includes the European Space Shield, which focuses on domain awareness, the mitigation of jamming and spoofing activities, and in-orbit operations, according to a European Parliament document published in March 2026. The launch of the Space Shield is planned for Q2 of 2026, according to the European Commission.

The collaboration between Thales Alenia Space, Radmor, and Airbus will include communications payloads, mission control, satellite design, secure ground infrastructure, according to the release. Radmor, which is part of Poland's WB Group, is set to contribute its expertise in secure satellite communication capabilities, Bartlomiej Zając, CEO of Radmor is quoted saying in the release.

Poland's broader push for space-based capabilities has increased with Cezary Tomczyk, Poland's Deputy Minister of Defence, saying that by the end of 2026 the country will have nine satellites in orbit. The Polish official announced this on 30 March in a social media post while marking the launch of Poland's satellites.

Two satellites for the Polish Armed Forces' MikroSAR program were launched on the SpaceX Transporter-16 rideshare mission, which launched on 30 March from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The first satellite was launched on 28 November 2025, according to the Polish Geospatial Intelligence and Satellite Services Agency (Agencji Rozpoznania Geoprzestrzennego i Usług Satelitarnych: ARGUS).
