ILA 2026: Airbus Helicopters reveals U145 unmanned rotorcraft

Airbus Helicopters has revealed an unmanned version of its H145 rotorcraft, dubbed the U145.

Revealed as a full-scale mockup the day ahead of the ILA Berlin Airshow running from 10 to 14 June 2026, the U145 unmanned aircraft system (UAS) is scheduled to make its maiden flight under human safety supervision before the end of 2026, with entry into service slated for the beginning of the 2030s.

“With the U145, we are offering … an autonomous, uncrewed version of our H145 helicopter - combining the proven airframe, power and useful load of the H145 with the autonomy of a UAS,” Matthieu Louvot, CEO of Airbus Helicopters said. “To develop the U145 and its capabilities as a multi-mission UAS, we will be teaming up with leading autonomous mission partners to further expand the UAS ecosystem in Europe,” he added.

According to Airbus Helicopters, the U145 will feature a specialised sensor suite and artificial intelligence (AI) for full autonomy. It will have no physical cockpit, and will include significant adaptations for cargo, such as an integrated nose door, a foldable loading table and a dedicated cargo floor. With the clam-shell nose and rear doors combined with the sliding doors on each side of the cabin, the U145 will afford 360 degree access for the loading and unloading of cargo.
