Farnborough 2026: European countries procure AeroVironment Switchblade loitering munition

European countries are procuring AeroVironment Switchblade loitering munition (LMs) via the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme. An AeroVironment representative told Janes at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026 being held on 21-24 July that Greece had procured Switchblade 600 (SB600) and the UK Switchblade 300 (SB300) LMs.

In addition, the US State Department announced on 16 July 2026 that it had approved the possible FMS to Greece of Switchblade 300 Block 20 (SB300B20) Lethal Miniature Aerial Missile Systems (LMAMS).

The Greek government has requested to purchase 350 SB300B20 LMAMS and 35 SB300B20 LMAMS fire control systems (FCS). The US State Department said the possible FMS also includes SB600 Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module Global Positioning System LMAMS; SB600 FCS; SB300B20 tactical battery chargers; SB600 smart battery chargers; spares packages; training services; field service representative support; US government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related logistics and programme support. The estimated total cost of the possible FMS is USD80.1 million.

The State Department said the proposed sale would support US foreign policy and national security “by improving the security of a NATO ally that continues to be a force for political and economic stability in Europe...The proposed sale will improve Greece's capability to deter current and future threats, support coalition operations, and increase interoperability with the United States...The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.”
