Russia has upgraded facilities for the production of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said during a speech in Russia’s Federation Council on 25 March.
“The manufacturing facilities have been modernised in order to launch the serial production of the Sarmat heavy ICBM,” said Shoigu, adding that the Ministry of Defence is reinforcing its deterrence capabilities.
Modern equipment will account for nearly 90% of the Russian nuclear forces’ inventory, according to Shoigu.
