With Huntingtin Ingalls Industries (HII) shipyards reporting their first cases of Covid-19-positive cases, the US military is deploying forces to alleviate the strain of virus-related healthcare for areas hit particularly hard in the United States.
HII confirmed on 23 March that an employee of Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) in Virginia had tested positive for Covid-19. “The individual self-reported to us today, following a positive diagnosis over the weekend,” NNS President Jennifer Boykin said in an online note.
The individual is actively recovering and remains in quarantine, Boykin said, and has not been on company property since 16 March.
“Our leadership team has met with the employees who work near the individual or who came into close contact with the individual,” she said.
