The Brazilian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has joined the Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) funding system of the US Department of Defense (US DoD).
The bilateral agreement was signed between the Armed Forces Joint Staff of the Brazilian MoD and US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) in Miami on 8 March to pave the way for potential future co-operation on applied research, development of emerging technologies, analysis, operational studies, demonstrations, and the testing and evaluation of prototypes.
RDT&E funding is the pathway through which the US military explores new technologies and capabilities and develops them into weapon systems and platforms.
The US and Brazilian armed forces have significantly strengthened ties and cooperation between them over the previous years and they are expected to increase as the current Brazilian government has clearly shown alignment with the US administration.
