One of the Spanish Navy's newest Meteoro-class Buque de Acción Marítima (BAM) offshore patrol vessels, SPS Audaz (P 45), has embarked on its first overseas mission: a five-month voyage to co-operate with and help train West African nations in security, especially in combating piracy.
Audaz departed its home port of Cartagena on 1 March and is due to visit nine countries before returning to Spain at the end of July.
Its first stop is Mouadhibou in Mauritania before heading south via Accra, Ghana, and Dhoula in Cameroon to Walvis Bay in Namibia. It will then turn back via Luanda in Angola, Port Gentil in Gabon, Accra again, Dakar in Senegal, and finally Praia in Cabo Verde.
