India has registered strong growth in the number of small businesses entering the defence sector over the past few years, new figures show.
In a recent written reply in Indian parliament by Nitin Gadkari, the minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), he said the number of MSMEs operating in the defence sector was up to 10,506 by the second quarter of fiscal year 2019–20.
According to figures provided by Gadkari, this represents a jump of 22% compared with the whole of the previous year. He said the number of MSMEs operating in the defence sector in 2018–19 was 8,643 and one year earlier it was 7,591.
