Leonardo has protested the Czech selection of eight UH-1Y Venom utility and four AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters from Bell under a CZK14.6 billion (USD625 million) Czech-US intergovernmental agreement signed in December 2019.
"Leonardo confirms it submitted on 18 February 2020 a petition to the Czech Republic's Office for the Protection of Competition - Public Procurement Division (ÚOHS) to prohibit the performance of the contract for multirole helicopters for the Czech Ministry of Defence (MoD)," Roberto Caprarella, a Leonardo spokesperson, told Jane's on 24 February. "The Czech MoD cannot conclude a contract with a third party prior to the delivery of the decision on the objections which were presented by Leonardo on 20 November 2019, as the MoD's decision was only delivered to Leonardo on 5 December 2019, after the conclusion of the contract with a third party [the US government] dated 21 November 2019."
