France’s Naval Group has pledged to award to Australian industry subcontracting deals with more than half the total value of the AUD80 billion (USD55.15 billion) programme to locally build 12 Attack-class submarines for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

Australia’s defence minister Linda Reynolds said in a statement on 24 February that she had received a commitment from her French counterpart, Florence Parly, that “Naval Group is committed to a level of Australian industry capability of at least 60% of the contract value spent in Australia”.

Reynolds added that the Australian government would “hold Naval Group to account on their contractual commitment to maximise Australian industry involvement in this programme”.
