Macedonian parliament approves NATO accession protocol

12 February 2020

The Macedonian parliament approved Skopje's NATO accession protocol on 11 February, with 114 out of 120 lawmakers voting in favour. The vote took place several weeks earlier than planned as the Macedonian parliament is set to dissolve at the end of the week ahead of early elections on 12 April.

Spain is the only remaining alliance member that has to ratify the accession protocol for North Macedonia to join NATO and become its 30th member state. The Spanish parliament is expected to vote on the protocol in March.
