US Africa Command (AFRICOM) has identified Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, and Senegal as the focus countries for its Africa Enlisted Development Strategy (AEDS) in 2020, it announced on 27 January.
"This strategy is a low-to-no-cost, multi-year approach to enlisted development on the continent," it said. "This approach seeks to standardise existing African professional military education institutions that can train, not only their own nation's forces but also those of neighbouring countries, to create regional centres of excellence."
"These four countries are among the leaders when it comes to professional enlisted development," AFRICOM quoted Command Master Chief Ryan Burton, its acting senior enlisted leader, as saying.
