General Dynamics Land Systems UK (GDLS-UK) has initiated a pilot innovation project for the United Kingdom’s Ajax armoured fight vehicle (AFV) family, which calls for small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to pitch innovations for the vehicle’s first spiral upgrade.

The announcement was made during a presentation by Steve Bingley, GDLS-UK chief engineer of future business, on 21 January at the International Armoured Vehicles (IAV) conference in London.

The process is to begin with a series of innovation events involving the British Army and GDLS-UK during which the parties will work to identify and prioritise themes for the experimentation phase. Bingley added that the best options will be selected for either a contract change proposal or three options will be funded for an experimental series of trials.
