The Portuguese government has completed the liquidation of the country’s defence industrial holding company Empresa Portuguesa de Defesa (EMPORDEF), it was announced on 21 January.
The dissolution of EMPORDEF was agreed by the Portuguese Ministry of National Defence (MoND) and the Ministry of Finance in 2015.
EMPORDEF was responsible for managing state holdings in firms directly or indirectly involved in defence activities.
The holdings stakes in Portuguese companies: EID (active in military communications); EMPORDEF-Tecnologias de Informação (training and simulation solutions); EMPORDEF-Engenharia Naval (the sale and purchase of property); OGMA-Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal (the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aircraft and engines, aircraft painting, avionics upgrades, aircraft modernization, and the production of aerostructures); EDISOFT (software development); DEFLOC-Locação de Equipamentos de Defesa (the leasing of 12 EH-101 Merlin helicopters to the Portuguese Air Force); DEFAERLOC-Locação de Aeronaves Militares (the leasing of 12 C-295M aircraft to the Portuguese Air Force); Extra-Explosivos daa Trafaria (explosives and pyrotechnics production); Arsenal do Alfeite (ship repair, maintenance, modernisation, and construction); and Naval Rocha-Sociedade de Construção e Reparações Navais (ship repair and maintenance) were transferred to Plataforma das Indústrias de Defesa Nacionais (idD).
