The Direction générale de l'armement (DGA), the French defence procurement agency, has received the first Nerva LG unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) for France's Scorpion programme, Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly announced on 15 January.
The DGA said on its website on 15 January that the first five 5 kg Nerva LG reconnaissance UGVs had been delivered to the Army Technical Section (Section Technique de l'Armée de Terre: STAT) for evaluation to refine the concept for their employment before they are introduced into French forces.
The UGVs are part of a first order by the DGA for 56 UGVs from Nexter, in association with ECA, in August 2019. Five more Nerva LGs, 10 3 kg Nerva S reconnaissance UGVs, and 36 12 kg Nerva XX/Caméléon LG engineering UGVs are scheduled to be delivered in 2020.
Under the Scorpion programme, 92 Griffon armoured vehicles were delivered in 2019, to be followed by the Jaguar armoured reconnaissance vehicle starting in 2020 and the Serval Véhicule Blindé Multi-Rôle-Léger (VBMR-L) light multirole armoured vehicle starting in 2022.
