Turkey’s TEI delivers local UAV engines

20 January 2020

Tusas Engine Industries (TEI) tweeted on 16 January that it had delivered the first 13 of 40 TEI-PD170 turbo-diesel aviation engines to Turkish Aerospace.

The TEI-PD170 is the first local engine developed for the Anka unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) by TEI and General Electric (GE).

İsmail Demir, the head of Turkey’s Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB), said in a 15 January press release that the TEI-PD170 would be fitted mainly on UAVs, including armed Akincis, as well as other plaftorms.

The TEI-PD170, which is designed and produced in Turkey, is 90% local in terms of the costs of its subsystems, material, and labour, according to Demir.
